If you are new to duck hunting, you might be looking at guides and learning tips in order to make the right choices. You are probably learning what supplies you need and strategies to make your hunting trip successful. Many ducks hunters use tried-and-true tools in the field. The most important one is the duck call.

While hunting, you are going to want to give yourself some help in getting the ducks close enough to shoot. A duck call is a great tool to attract waterfowls’ attention and bring them in close to you. JJ Lares duck calls can be single or double reeded which will change the sound you can produce with them. Most beginners find a double-reed to be the easiest to use and learn on. Single reed provide more versatility, but take a lot of time to master. A bad call will do the opposite of what you want and can scare the ducks away.

Along with your JJ Lares call, duck decoys are a great way to attract ducks to your hunting spot. They come in all sorts of shapes and colors to look like the real deal, but it’s important to use the right one for your location. Using Mallard decoys where marbled ducks live won’t work so you should take the time to learn where species of ducks live where you plant to hunt. Another way to improve your chances with decoys is to learn the best strategies for placing them. It’s less about how many decoys you have and more about the way you place them. Don’t overcrowd the decoys in mild weather. Ducks don’t sit on the water close together unless there are high winds or they are on edge.

JJ Lares calls make it easy to draw the ducks to where you are hiding. Don’t try to hunt the ducks standing out in the open. It’s important to match your clothing to your surroundings and try to blend into the background. Unlike other game, waterfowls can see color. So, its more important to use camouflage so they don’t spot you. Blinds are a great way to stay hidden while you draw the ducks to you. The biggest mistake beginners make is to look straight up towards the sky without anything covering their face. Your face will stand out more with all the camouflaging you have been doing so make sure to wear a mask or makeup to cover up.

Your local hunting and fishing store can help you with any trouble you are having or help you pick out the perfect gear for your needs. It’s also the best place to learn local tips that might help you out such as the best duck hunting locations or laws you need to follow! Talking to other hunters is a great way to learn quickly, but always be sure to get a feel for hunting your own way too. In an outdoor store, everyone thinks they are experts so don’t take advice you don’t want. Just remember to have fun!
