Shelagh, female right whale entangled in fishing gear in Canada
“Shelagh,” the female North Atlantic right whale who was spotted in Cape Cod Bay last month, was recently found tangled in fishing gear in Canada, according to the New England Aquarium.
This is the fifth entanglement for Shelagh, who was first sighted in 2015, according to a statement from Amy Knowlton, a senior scientist in the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life at the New England Aquarium. The whale’s exact age is unknown.
