Massachusetts ‘millionaires tax’ generated $2.2 billion in first year, but budget gap remains
After adjusting for the new tax revenue, the state currently faces a budget gap of around $233 million for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
While the millionaire’s tax revenue was more than double the $1 billion that Governor Maura Healey and other legislators had allocated to spend, the windfall won’t leave state coffers flush with cash.
